I'm slowly but surely getting the color to look more natural, though I haven't managed to take any pictures yet with the crispness that I want. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know: patience, young padawan.)

Claudine is usually the diametric opposite of lonely or sad, but this picture brought out something else in her. Musedoll outfit, Eliza Doolittle hat found at a doll show, stockings from somebody or other on eBay, vintage necklace.

A little closer and perhaps less melancholy:

Sejong seems irritated about wearing, er, being swallowed by Kanbei's sweater, but the color is so nifty on him that surely he'll accept one made to fit, ne?

And I knew I shouldn't have let Etienne read The Sheltering Sky . . .

That hat cracks me up--it's so perfect with the Musedoll outfit.

They look really rich in color though.

I'm really pleased with the color except for those hot reds--but I have a suspicion about what's making them pop so much in certain conditions. Learning new stuff--ain't it grand? ;-)

Now that I'm getting them closer to what they really look like, I think the results are going to keep improving . . . fun times!

Aww, lovely pictures! The clean light is wonderful, and the backdrop is really nice. And yes, Sejong does look just a tad irritated. XD;;

Sejong is so much happier without a shirt, and I can't say I blame him . . .

Ahhhhh, my universal backdrop, LOL--I really need to find some others I like this well, but it's fun to play with the different textures in this canvas.

Seems it gets quite high marks all the way around, by owners and consumer groups.

Have you tried the bright blues, or the bright blue-greens?
I love the quality of yor photos, and how crisp they are. Are you using a tent on some of them?

I love questions!! And the D50 came VERY highly recommended to me, not just in online reviews and product tests, but by several excellent amateur photographers that I know. I'm just in the adjustment phase, that's all, and like any camera, this one has a quirk or two that I'll need to figure out.

I did some random test shots of my bookshelves yesterday, and blues, greens, even yellows all came up looking lifelike, no matter how bright they were . . . so it's just reds that are quirky and "hot." Even with reds, plenty of natural light solves the problem; I didn't do any color correction either before or after shooting on this set of pictures, but that's absolutely the right color for the big sweater and for Etienne's Moroccan stripes. I wonder if my living-room floor is bouncing enough reddish light to affect that particular part of the spectrum, now that I have a more sensitive camera.

And thank you for the compliment--no, I don't have a tent, just the light from my south-facing picture window in the living room. I had gotten to the point with the Canon A75 where I could get lovely sharp images under most daytime conditions; I know I'll get there with the D50, but I did have a fantasy that I could start there, right out of the box. (Mmmmmyeah, even though I had never used an SLR in my life until three days ago. Dream on.)

I've used SLRs, and love them. I have an Olympus and a Cannon. They both had light meters built in, and are a joy to use. This bloomin' thing of my husband's is not so easy, though you can use the point and click method....it too tells you if the light is "correct." Though I have to wonder about it's judgement.....at times... (I don't like the digital movie cameras, either. I guess I just don't like the "view screen" they have. I'm hoping the digi SLR lets you see through the lens...no screens, please.)

The D50 doesn't use the monitor screen at all when framing/composing a shot--unless there's a setting that I haven't discovered yet. Everything happens through the viewfinder, and I'm getting nose prints all over the monitor screen from squinting through the finder . . . but I feel much more as if I'm taking "real" photographs, if that makes sense.
