The page-56 meme
Lifted from the_impassive and heartflood:

* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

Because I'm at the office, here's the book on top of the nearest pile:

She thereat, as one
That smells a foul-flesh'd agaric in the holt,
And deems it carrion of some woodland thing,
Or shrew, or weasel, nipt her slender nose
With petulant thumb and finger, shrilling, 'Hence!
Avoid, thou smellest all of kitchen-grease.'

Tennyson, Idylls of the King, "Gareth and Lynette." Penguin Classics edition. Honest.

Here are sentences five and six: "Word spread quickly through the camp. The Warrior named Ordinary was about to challenge the Giant of Darkness in the name of the Dream Giver." The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson

Besides my prayer journal, I have 6 books within reach. Two of them are Riley's library books and do not have 56 pages. This one was on top. The other three are Helping Children Cope with Separation and Loss by Claudia Jewett Jaratt, Solomon's Choice by Richard Kent Esq. & John Steinbreder, and Why Children Misbehave by Bruce Narramore. The Dream Giver is the light reading of that bunch.
